Top 5 Flops of 2014

As the year 2014 is coming to an end. We take a look at devices that did not meet their expectations. Here are the top 5 flops of the 2014/

5. NOKIA X Series

Simply put, The Nokia X and its Kin (see what I did there?) are laggy by design. You have an old version of Android (Android 4.1) that's three full cycles behind, built with very little hardware optimization, and tossed on low end hardware. It's almost as if someone wants to make Android look laggy and poor.

4.SAMSUNG GALAXY S5's Fingerprint Scanner

When the Galaxy S5 got announced, we were glad to hear that it had a built-in fingerprint scanner. But then we used the phone for a while and found out that the scanner wasn't very reliable. Unlike Apple ID, which is the best fingerprint sensor implementation on a phone that we've seen so far, the S5's scanner is of the swipe kind. This makes it uncomfortable to use, especially with a single hand. Plus, its accuracy needs serious improvement.

3. Limited Availability of ONEPLUS ONE

The folks at OnePlus had our expectations set pretty high with their bold claims of how they had created the perfect smartphone. Then the official announcement came, and we were all wowed by the OnePlus One – it had the hardware of a 2014 flagship, yet was priced at only $299, which was a jaw-dropping price for that kind of specs. Yet there was a bitter catch. To get the "flagship killer" OnePlus One, you needed an invitation, and these were pretty limited. So yeah, the One was a great smartphone, but the process of getting one was simply too frustrating.

2. Ultrapixel Camera on HTC M8

The HTC One M7 was a spectacular phone and the successor M8 was even better but had the same problem, The UltraPixel camera. Though it captures fast and has some cool features, it does not compete with its rival phones. The low resolution of the sensor and the software's imperfections often cause it to yield mediocre photos.

1. AMAZON FIRE PHONE

The reasons for the Fire Phone’s failure are many: It’s an exclusive to AT&T, it costs as much on contract as the iPhone 6 and Galaxy S5 despite not having either phone’s extensive app ecosystem, and it’s loaded with gimmicky features that aren’t that compelling differentiators. Overall, Amazon’s ambitious device simply doesn’t have a defining quality that would compel the average consumer to run out and buy it.
