Apple planning to open 500 iOS stores in India

The Times of India reports the tech giant Apple is planning a major push into India over the coming months, supposedly in hopes of becoming a more mainstream brand. Currently, rival smartphone maker Samsung dominates the smartphone landscape in the country.

2 Years ago, Tim Cook had said “I love India, but I believe Apple has some higher potential in the intermediate term in some other countries.” He added, “We have a business there and the business is growing but the multi-layered distribution there really adds to the cost of getting products to market.” The new stores will be smaller in size and could range from 300 to 600 square feet against over 2,000-square-foot size of existing stores in bigger cities.

Apple needs new users, and India has millions of them! What needs to be seen is whether how successful Apple becomes in Indian towns and cities. After all, their devices never come cheap!
