Korean singer Psy’s viral video Gangnam Style has reached the mind-blowing 2,154,803,897 views i.e. around 2.15 billion on the Youtube and still views are increasing with every passing minute which compelled the YouTube developers to upgrade the view counter so that the views show up with ever increasing digits.
YouTube is a video sharing domain which had a 32 bit integer system previously to show the number of views of any video since it was founded in February 2005. But now a Korean hip-hop star Psy forced YouTube to replace the 32 bit integer system with 64 bit counter which means videos have a maximum viewer count of 9.22 quintillion from now.
On 1st December, YouTube posted a statement saying: “We never thought a video would be watched in numbers greater than a 32-bit integer… but that was before we met Psy.”
Google owned YouTube has made a stance regarding the changes in the view counter by saying that: “We saw this coming a couple months ago and updated our systems to prepare for it,” says the YouTube proprietor, so we updated to a 64-bit counter (9,223,372,036,854,775,808 max — that’s 9 quintillion).”
The video has around 9 million “likes” and more than 1 million “dislikes” and it was uploaded in July, 2012. It has broken all the records in popularity and Psy himself was probably unaware of the fact that Gangnam Style video will be proved as a right chord and will gain that much popularity.
Gangnam Style video has already gotten so many awards and marked a place in the Guinness Book of world records of being highly watched video.
he video for Psy's 2012 phenomenon now registers more than 2.153 billion views and is easily the most watched clip ever on the service - a lazy billion ahead of the second-placed Baby by Justin Bieber.
No other clips in the top 10 most viewed have more than one billion views, and nine are music videos. The only non-music video is 'Charlie bit my finger - again!' a cute but unremarkable clip from 2007 of two toddlers in an armchair, which has been seen 805 million times.
The most popular Australian clip is Somebody That I Used to Know by Gotye, which is the 18th most watched with 575 million views.
Psy is the only artist with two clips in the top 10 and he also has the 25th most-watched, a Gangnam Style duet with South Korean pop singer Hyuna (which has a paltry 526 million views). Counting the 'lost' views for Gangnam Style, Psy songs may have been watched 3.5 billion times.
