Intel launches the 5th gen Intel Core Processor family "Broadwell"

Intel has officially launched their latest 5th Generation Broadwell-U generation of 14nm based core processor family for a wide range of platforms. The launch comes three months after Intel unveiled their Core M “Broadwell-Y” processors. Broadwell is Intel's codename for the 14 nanometer die shrink of its Haswell micro-architecture. It is a "tick"(shrinks its existing x86 processor architecture to become more efficient) in Intel's tick-tock(revamping the architecture) principle as the next step in semiconductor fabrication
These processors will be world's first processor built on 14 nm technology. Today, the new 5th generation Intel® Core™ processors are officially available. Intel is adding 14 new processors under its Core i3, i5, and i7 designations while also expanding its Pentium and Celeron ranges with new models as well.

These processors enable a new wave of innovation with features such as 3D scanning, gesture control, and voice commands.
  • The Performance is 2.5x times better than previous Gen.
  • 3D Printing boosted by 3.5x.
  • 3D Gaming is now 12x faster.
  • The Battery will last an average of 90 minutes longer than its predecessor when playing back video.
  • Transistor count increased by 35%
  • But, Lowered the size by 37%
  • With 5th generation Intel® vPro™ technology you can automatically dock to monitors, keyboards, and USB accessories with Intel® Wireless Gigabit technology.
  • Brings features like gesture control, 3D capture and edit, and innovative photo and video capabilities.
  • Intel® Smart Sound Technology enables a true hands-free, voice command experience without sacrificing battery life.
  • HD Graphics 5500, HD Graphics 6000 and Iris Graphics 6100 all represent a jump in GPU performance for Intel chips.

Intel also started shipping its next generation 14nm processor for tablets, codenamed “Cherry Trail”. The new system on a chip will offer new user experiences such as Intel® RealSense™ technology, no wires, no password and Intel® Context Aware™ technology capabilities. New products based on “Cherry Trail” will be introduced starting in the first half of 2015.
