Tag Heuer unveils the Carrera connected Smartwatch running on Android which costs $1,500

During an event in New York, Tag Heuer had just officially announcedtheir new luxury smart watch called the Carrera Connected. This is the first smart watch by Tag Heuer running on Android Wear.

A luxury watch through and through, the Connected costs $1,500 and carries much of the legacy of Tag Heuer's watchmaking prowess. It shares many of its design attributes with Tag Heuer's Carrera analog watch. The company says it went through great efforts to make the Connected not "look like a connected watch."

The Carrera Connected was built in collaboration with Google and Intel and runs on Google Android Wear operating system.

In a presentation in New York, Tag Heuer CEO Jean-Claude Biver said that this launch marks the marriage of the traditional Swiss watch world with Silicon Valley, and the future. Perhaps more importantly, however, the Carrera Connected represents the market’s first luxury Android watch, meant to compete more directly with the Apple Watch.

The Carrera Connected is built of titanium, a metal prized for its high strength to weight ratio compared to steel. Tag Heuer says the watch can be personalized with six different rubber straps. The watch measures 46mm in diameter, putting it on the larger side of the spectrum.

This device features an Intel processor. It's touchscreen is covered in sapphire crystal and it features a simple dock for charging. All the general features of any Android Wear like Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, microphone etc are all included in this device.

The watch comes with three customizable watch faces, with more to be downloaded from the Google Play Store, and is meant to resemble a luxury analog watch as opposed to looking like a smartwatch.
