Google announces offline maps and navigation in India

Google distributes from now a new version of its Maps app. Google not brings only a revised offline mode, but also the opportunity to use navigation in downloaded maps without an internet connection.


Google maps offline mode is now available in India.It will enable the user to access maps and turn-by-turn navigation without internet connection.



Google has announced the latest version of Google Maps for Android which has an improved offline mode,providing access to turn-by-turn directions and several other features in areas without internet connection.This update will enable users to get driving direction, search for specific destinations and look up information about places, including hours of operation and contact details,while offline.

Step by step guide to use the new offline feature for Android users:





1. Open Google Maps and type in the destination, city, or the area you want to download in the search bar. 
2. After the area loads, click on the name of the destination at the bottom of the screen to get more information about it. Press “Download offline area” from the drop down category near the search button.
3. You will see a box with the location on your screen. Move the box to the area you want to navigate offline. Press download again. 

You can now navigate within that area without data connection.When a connection is found, it will switch back online so you can access the full version of Maps, including live traffic conditions for your current route. However, Google Maps will, by default, download areas to your device only when you are on a Wi-Fi connection.

Google says that IOS version of maps will get these features in few days. Over time, Google will still populating some more offline capabilities in Maps.
