Android 1.6 Donut, Everything you need to know about this sticky release







The fourth version of Android 1.6, Donut launched in September 2009, five months after Cupcake hit the market. Despite the myriad of updates. the first major overhaul of the Android system was unveiled by Google and it was so good that a number of devices are still running the platform today. With this launch came an improved Android Market experience to make it easier to find applications, an enhanced camera and gallery and vastly improved voice search to let you flick through the phone and dial friends using only the power of your vocal cords. Google was still adding basic functionality to Android. Donut brought support for different screen sizes, CDMA support, and a text-to-speech engine.


  • Android 1.6 upgrades the Linux kernel from 2.6.27 to 2.6.29.

  • API level of Android 1.6 Donut is Level 4.
