This update was released in april 2009. After a flop update of android version 1.1 they updated the android with major features. Google has started to name their major releases with dessert or sugary treat and named this update as cupcake. This was tested and released on second android device HTC magic without a hardware keyboard.
- Android 1.6 upgrades the Linux kernel to 2.6.27
- API level of Android 1.5 Cupcake is level-3.

- Improvements in clipboard. we can copy and paste the content from the Browser.
- Improvement in camera. We can record videos and directly upload videos to youtube and share it.

- Zoom feature in browser was improved.
- Upload support for YouTube and Picasa was added.
- Google maps was added for the first time in this update.
- UI Improvements.
