Android Version 1.1, The last Pre-Commercial released version

The android platform was updated for the first time in February 2009. This update was not a revolutionary update. It just included all the patches for the long lengthy bugs list.

  • The API level of Android 1.0 is level-2.

Some features of Android Version 1.1 were:

  • Support for paid apps was added to Android Market which made developers to create paid apps and release on android market and make money from them.
  • Maps added Google Latitude, a way to share your location with friends. Latitude was shut down in favor of Google+ a few months ago and no longer works. There was an option for it in the Maps menu, but tapping on it just brings up a loading spinner forever.
  • Many of the bugs were rectified and added with OTA feature.
  • Added "about phone" button to check for software updates

Android version 1.1 can also be called as a "PATCH" for Version 1.0. As Everyone knows that Each android major release is named in alphabetical order after a dessert or sugary treat and they started that from next update.
