How to unofficially unlock Asus Zenfone 2 Bootloader

A good news for the Asus Zenfone 2 users. The senior XDA member ravian29 had just posted a tutorial for unlocking the phone's bootloader. He came up with this along with the other XDA members shakalaca and fuzzybuffalo

 Please note that as this is an unofficial process, ASUS will not be providing any technical support if issues arise as consequences of the process.The users are requested to perform this at your own risk.


Requirements
  • Your phone must be rooted on the latest stock firmware i.e v2.19.40
  • Install the ADB on your computer
  • Download "Back Splash Screen" onto your computer. Click Here to download.

Steps to be Followed
  1. Connect your Zenfone 2 to your PC via USB cable
  2. Open the ADB command window and enter these commands (Hit enter after each command):


  • adb shell 
  • su
  • getprop ro.isn>/factory/asuskey
  • reboot bootloader

   3. Now the phone will reboot in recovery mode, update itself and start again.You will notice that the ASUS splash screen is white indicating the removal of the factory lock.

   4. Now navigate to the ADB folder, open the command prompt and enter the following commands:


  • adb reboot bootloader
  • fastboot devices

  5. Check if your device is listed and enter the following:

       
       fastboot flash splashscreen splashscreen.img and press enter.
  
  6. Reboot the phone and you willl find that the black splash screen is back. Now your bootloader is unlocked.

Incase the above method doesn't work, u can follow another method listed below:

Make sure you have all the ADT packages installed from the link below:

1. Download Modaco Superboot file for Asus Zenfone 2 Ze551ml. 
Click here to download and save them to your computer. And extract all the files.

2. On your device, click on Settings>Developer Options > Turn USB Debugging on.

3. Connect the device to your computer via USB cable.

4. Open the superboot folder. Now press the shift key down and right click in any blank space. Select open command window here.

5. In the command prompt window, enter the following commands.(Hit enter after each command):
  •    adb-windows reboot bootloader ( Wait for the device to reboot)
   fastboot-windows oem unlock ( If it gets stuck at waiting for device here, download and install PDANet on your computer. Then unplug and replug the back and see if it fixes.)

6. Once it runs, a display is generated asking if you are sure. Click yes using the volume buttons.The device now will go back to the bootloader but it stays unlocked.
